Imari ware of the seventeenth century - Rediscovering masterpieces l
This event has ended.
When you look at ceramics, what is it that stands out? Is it their appearance or their function, or, in other words, their pattern or design? In actual fact there are many factors that may stand out. Even when looking at a selection of Imari ware alone, you will notice unique characteristics in items such as circular plates and square dishes, as well as flower-shaped plates and pieces where the white base color appears with a blueish tint in some instances, and a more milky hue in others. By observing such differences, you may discover a masterpiece that you had not thought of note previously.
Imari ware was first created in the seventeenth century, and many innovations can be traced back to this time when large quantities were being produced. Discover your favorite works among the highly individual seventy or so items exhibited here. Works are divided among fifteen different themes, including “shape” and “base white.”
