In 1999 a prize was established in tribute to Yusaku Kamekura, a graphic designer who passed away suddenly in 1997, intended as a contribution to the development of the graphic design industry. The selection and administration of the prize is overseen by the Japan Graphic Designers Association (JAGDA). Each year the most outstanding work from “Graphic Design in Japan” is awarded the prize. The winner of the 19th award is Yoshie Watanabe for “Audrey,” her packaging design for a range of Japanese sweets. Watanabe is an art director and graphic designer that drew the idiosyncratic illustrations that appear on her work herself. This exhibition will present Watanabe’s award-winning packaging design alongside other illustration work and projects she has worked on to date.
