Collages and montages assemble multiple images. Photograms create images by applying sunlight directly onto printing paper without the use of a camera. Some artists paint on photographs. As with these examples, there are many ways to produce a photographic work besides straightforward photography and printing. For this exhibition, Shadai Gallery pulls from its collection of more than 10,000 original prints to introduce manipulated photograph7. Forty black and white works by artists such as Oscar Gustav Rejlander, Eikyu, and Toshiko Okanoue are on display.
