Suntory Museum of Art
Museum in The Roppongi, Akasaka area
On March 30th, the Suntory Museum of Art will re-open in a section of Tokyo Mid-town. The original museum in Akasaka Mitsuke was established in 1961, taking the "beauty in our daily lives" as its concept. Suntory Museum of Art has taken on a new message "Connecting Beauty, Blossoming Beauty".
Connecting old things with the new; connecting beauty between time; connecting beauty without regard for the cultural borders of countries and races - 'connecting' things freely and boldly can lead to people making new discoveries and feeling intellectually stimulated. The Museum wishes to forge new relations between people and beauty, striving to intersect the traditional and the contemporary, the Western and the Asian. By taking the fusion of 'traditional' and 'contemporary' as his theme, architect Kengo Kuma designed the museum to be a soothing space with the comfort of an urban living room.
There are tea rooms, shops, and cafes where you can enjoy reflecting on the exhibitions. The shop and cafe open everyday until 9 pm except for January 1st.
