Retrospective Exhibition of Kiyomizu Rokubey
This event has ended.
This is the first large-scale exhibition of Kiyomizu pottery in two decades, featuring 200 items.
Ever since founder Rokubey opened his Kyoto kiln in 1771, the pottery style of the Kiyomizu clan has been left open to the creative spirit of each successive family head. Following in the spirit, rather than form, of their predecessors, the Kiyomizu line has always breathed fresh air into the traditional world of Kyo-Yaki.
At one time art, and at another industry, looking back at the history of Kiyomizu pottery means simultaneously to reflect upon the various roles of pottery through Japanese history. The clan’s achievements will be considered in relation to developments in present day Japan.
