The Mugonkan Museum memorializing art students who were killed in World War II was opened in 1997 on the outskirts of Ueda City, Nagano Prefecture. This museum preserves and exhibits the posthumous works and effects of students who were intending to become artists but were instead called to the military and lost their lives in the war while still young. In presenting works primarily from the Mugonkan Museum collection together with some pieces from the collections of other, public museums as well as some still held by the families of these students, this exhibition evokes the 60 years since the end of the war.
