Osamu Kataoka - Peace Forever
This event has ended.
At MDS Gallery
Media: Graphics, Illustration
This exhibition focuses on the typography in graphic designer Osamu Kataoka's 72 "Peace Posters".
At the time of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Hiroshima-born Osamu Kataoka was at his junior high school, only 800 meters away from where the bomb was dropped. He was one of the few who miraculously survived the radiation. Forty years later, in 1985, Kataoka started creating 100 peace posters themed around the atomic bomb. He died in 1997 without completely fulfilling that ambition, and leaving us 72 pieces. For Kataoka, to be a graphic designer was to create the world.
"Love, Love & Peace, Peace Forever" shows strong brushworks, vivid hues, and daring compositions. The "Love Peace Poster" exhibition has been held before in both Japan and overseas, but with the 60th anniversary of the atomic bomb attack, MDS Gallery decided to give Kataoka's work the special attention it deserves.
