Base Gallery presents an exhibition entitled "On paper" by Shinro Ohtake. All works exhibited here are on 70x100cm-sized Fabriano Rosaspina paper. This show focuses on landscapes that have been brewing in the artist's mind for the past 20 years.
Ohtake says that he feels the paper embraces his desire to draw. Moreover, he cannot help thinking that something lays hidden in dense gaps of its fibres. These statements highlight his strong creative zest and his meticulous understanding of the materials he uses in his art.
In 2006 the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tokyo will hold a solo exhibition for him. In the runup to this event, Base Gallery explores the artist's wide scope of production through his works on paper.
