Naoya Hatakeyama (born 1958) studied photography under Kiyoshi Ohtsuji at Tsukuba University. After being awarded the Ihei Kimura Prize in 1997 and participating in the Venice Biennale in 2001, Hatakeyama has gone on to hold solo exhibition around the world and is now one of Japan's leading photographers.

Through representative works and numerous recent works, the exhibition examines the various lines in cityscapes drawn by the "Pencil of Nature" (a phrase used to describe photography by W.H.F. Talbot, who developed the negative-positive technique of photography in the 19th century) and the aspects of nature that surface from it. A total of 180 photographs divided into 17 groups will demonstrate the integrity of Hatakeyama's work.
