Born in 1949, Nobuyuki Oura is known for the "Carrying Perspective" series of works he made in New York between 1982 and 1985.
This exhibition will present the "Carrying Perspective" film work that was derived from these prints as a form of self portrait, in which the artist has used the image of the emperor. The work brings up questions relating to how artistic expression and museum displays should be thought of. His film "Nippon Suicide Pact" is centred on art critic Ichiro Hariu, who examines the contradictions between the way the Japanese people used to think in the prewar period with the postwar period, portraying Japan in a mix of both fictional and non-fictional styles.
