The Yamatane Museum of Art was founded in 1966 as a museum that would specialize in Nihonga (Japanese style painting). Built by Taneji Yamazaki (1893-1983) from Yamatane Securities (presently SMBC Friend Securities) and the collection - a combination of Yamazaki's own collection of work and works added since his death - now totals some 1800 works. As well as comprising works of Nihonga from the Meiji Period until the present day, there are ukiyoe prints, pre-Meiji paintings, calligraphy works, ceramics, crafts and oil paintings.

This exhibition will change its display half way through.
