This event has ended.

This is Ichiro Isobe's first solo exhibition in two years. Since graduating from B-semi Learning System of Contemporary Art, Isobe has exhibited at Contemporary Art Center, Art Tower Mito and Yamamoto Gendai Gallery. He has been nominated for the VOCA Exhibition in 2007, and will submit new works.

The faces that Isobe paints have many aspects: 3D aspects such as architectural buildings and spaces, and 2D aspects such as logos and flags. They are all simplified or encoded so that the face itself is an icon, and then brought together on the same 2D plane. The new faces that are born from this process are like human beings that change with the passing of time, or cityscapes that evolve through the cycle of destruction and construction. They are things that we are familiar with, but in a random moment give us a sense of discomfort.

The title 'X-eye' has two meanings: to 'mix and intersect', and 'to see through', like X-rays. It is an experiment to see through layers and seek the things that have sunk to the bottom. In reality, the line between inside and out have been eating away at each other, producing an entirely different form.

Isobe pursues this 'mixture and intersection' at the material level. For the works displayed in this exhibition, he has used media such as pencil, oil paint, acrylic paint, color pencil, spray paints, and a large amount of chemicals.

Opening reception: January 27th, 18:00-20:00
