Legendary connoisseur of antiques, Jiro Aoyama (1901-1979) grew up in a wealthy family, showing a sophisticated aesthetic sense even when he was a teenager. In his 20s, he supported the cultural movement led by Soetsu Yanagi, and along with Shoji Hamada, and Kanjiro Kawai, his name was listed on the prospectus for the creation of the Nihon Mingeikan.
This exhibition consists of works referenced in Aoyama's book "Oukofu" based on the Yokogawa collection, a major collection of Chinese ceramic ware at the Tokyo National Mueum. This exhibition aims at following in the footsteps of Aoyama by examining his selected masterpieces.

この展覧会を観た人なら誰でも、
この一節を、心に刻むだろう。
『愛陶品目録』に収められた真心の画と言葉。
『陶経』の中の一節、「人が覗たらば蛙に化れ」。
彼は、また 「ものを愛でる」 天才でもあった。
いや、「ものを愛でる天才」であったからこそ、
本物の「天才」、「目利き」だったのだ。
