Media: Painting

Representative contemporary poet, Makoto Ooka (1931) has been active as an art critic from early on in his life, meeting many artists both in Japan and overseas since the mid-1950s. He has especially become close to artists such as Mitsuo Kano, Sam Francis and Keiji Usami, as well as musicians such as Toru Takemitsu and Toshi Ichiyanagi, through Minami Garo in Nihonbashi, Tokyo.

His relationship with them has spawned many poems and critiques. At times, he has also done collaborative work with them, and has even produced prints and watercolors under their supervision.

Ooka's collection of 400 pieces is precious evidence of their time together. This exhibition introduces various individual and collaborative works by Ooka's friends, as well as Ooka's own prints and watercolors. 150 pieces in total.
