Ilya Kabakov "Orbis Pictus -Children's Book and Illustration"

Setagaya Art Museum

This event has ended.

Ilya Kabakov (1933-) is one of the most highly acclaimed contemporary artists from Ukraine. During the Soviet era, he worked as an illustrator for children's books. His illustrated books were kept unseen to the public, even after he and his wife, Emilia moved to the West before the end of the Cold War.
This two-part exhibition introduces around 800 illustrations and about 100 original books. Life and the dreams of children under Socialist society are lively depicted in his works. Kabakov is now known for his political art, but this exhibition reveals an unknown side of this artist.
