In this exhibition, French artist Dominique Hézard has created an installation using "amado," sliding shutters used for Japanese houses. As she wonders around the historical city Kamakura, she recalls the opening sentences of classical literature "Ho-jo-ki," which she read when she first came to Japan at the age of 17. It reads: "ceaselessly the river flows, and yet the water is never the same, while in the still pools the shifting foam gathers and is gone, never staying for a moment. Even so is man and his habitation." This installation piece deals with the transience of the world which is expressed in "Ho-jo-ki."

先週の日曜日に行ってきました。
この「雨戸」という作品は日本の古き良きものたちが時代の波に圧されて消えていってしまうはかなさ、その儚いうつくしさ、を現れては消えていく「うたかた」のようだとドミニクさんは表現したのだと感じました。
壁には雨風に長い間晒されて独特の風合いに変わった木の雨戸たちが立てかけられていましたが、その雨戸のむこうがわにどんどんと古く美しいものを棄てていく現代社会の冷たさと、昔その雨戸のある家に住んでいた人の温かなぬくもりの両方を感じることができる作品でした。
幸運にもこの日は会場であるポラリスアートステージのオーナー様とお話しをする機会にも恵まれましたが、この会場は会場自体もまるでアートのように作品に寄り添って一緒に呼吸をしているような そんな絶妙なコンビネーションを生み出せるように作品を選んでいるとおっしゃっていました。
オーナー様ご自身もアーティストで、拝見した作品もとてもとても素敵でした。
