This event has ended.

When Japanese contemporary culture including art and design began to be recognized internationally in the 1980s, artists tried to create a distance from systems, and tried to work freely, seeking for their own forms of expression with a sense of liberation. In this lecture, with "alternative" as the keyword, we will discuss the Tokyo art scene from the 1980's to the 1990's, looking at the now-defunct Sagacho Exhibit Space and the innovative Touko Museum of Contemporary Art.
