NPO Arts Initiative Tokyo (AIT), with the generous support of the Backers Foundation, is holding "The Bar vol. 3," an exhibition of new works by Minam Apang and Florencia Rodriguez Giles.

Both Apang (India, born 1979) and Rodriguez Giles (Argentina, born 1978) are in Tokyo for a three-month artist in residency program organized by AIT and the Backers Foundation. On display are new drawings made over the course of their stay in Tokyo, inspired by their respective cultural backgrounds and discoveries in their newfound environments. This program was started in 2007 as a means of organizing exhibitions of work made as a result of residency programs by inviting young artists and curators to Tokyo. This year marks the third installment of the program.

Apang's work is inspired by oral traditions and narratives in the northeastern region of India where she was born. She folds and makes cuts in paper to create drawings that get transformed from flat 2D pieces into three-dimensional works. Rodriguez Giles will be exhibiting several drawings stemming from mythical scenes that range from Japanese Noh to ancient Greek theater.
