Izumi Kato was born in 1969 in Shimane Prefecture and graduated from the department of painting at Musashino Art University. In 2007, he became the first young Japanese painter to be invited to the 52nd Venice Biennale directed by Robert Storr.

Kato's paintings feature anonymous nobodies possessed of an intensity that evokes a larger framework of humanity. His wooden sculptures, which he has been producing since 2004, have a strength of presence that borders on otherworldliness. The title "Soul Union" was chosen by the artist to express how formless thoughts and values are shared, transcending blood relations and ethnicity, passed down to complete strangers as if they were genetic material.

Part one (paintings): March 12th (Fri) - April 17th (Sat)
Part two (sculptures): April 23rd (Fri) - May 22nd (Sat)
