"Marie Laurencin's Fan" Exhibition
Closes in 7 days
At Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art
Media: Painting
Marie Laurencin (1883-1956) was a French painter who once said that "even worse than being dead is being a forgotten woman”. In 1922, some of her poet friends brought together a collection of poems in praise of her work and published them as an anthology entitled "Fan" - a symbol of the figure of the elegant, mysterious woman that Laurencin embodied.
This exhibition, held with the support of the Marie Laurencin museum in Tateshina, Nagano Prefecture, showcases 33 works dating from Laurencin's youth through to her mature period, including representative oil paintings, self-portraits and book illustrations.
