"Ishibashi Collection Selected for the Exhibition in Paris, Spring, 1962" Exhibition
This event has ended.
Exactly fifty years ago in 1962, which marked the 10th anniversary of the opening of our Museum, the first exhibition introducing the Ishibashi Collection abroad (La Peinture française de Corot à Braque dans la Collection Ishibashi de Tokyo) took place at the Musée National d’Art Moderne in Paris. It was realized thanks to a proposal made by Bernard Dorival, who was then assistant director of the Musée National d’Art Moderne, Paris and also who had long esteemed the Ishibashi Collection. This exhibition was the talk of the town and evoked a great response, and at the same time, the existence of the collector Shojiro Ishibashi, who formed the basis of the collection, attracted the attention and surprise of the French media. As a result, the Ishibashi Collection gained wide recognition. This exhibition might be considered to be one of the starting points of our ever-growing Museum collection. It is introduced here, together with references dating from those days.
