Shigeo Anzai “Mono-ha by Anzai”
This event has ended.
In contrast to the anti-art leanings of Avant Garde Art, Mono-ha attempted to remove narrative and construction in art through the reduction of objects to their primary form. As part of this movement Anzai documented the lives and works of the 11 core mono-ha members through the 1970s, capturing the creative processes of “Phase Mother Earth” and “Phase of Nothingness” famed Nobuo Sekine, the rigorous studies of Lee U-Fan and the sequences of Kishio Suga, here presented in a series of 60 select black and white prints.
The 11 leaders of mono-ha: Koji Enokura, Noriyuki Haraguchi, Shingo Honda, Susumu Koshimizu, Lee Ufan, Katsuhiko Narita, Nobuo Sekine, Kishio Suga, Noboru Takayama, Katsuro Yoshida, and Jiro Takamatsu.
