poster for Toshio Arimoto ”Music of th Heavens”

This event has ended.

Pursuing a wish to transcribe the finest music upon the surface of the canvas the promising career of Toshio Arimoto(1946-1985) was cut short by his sudden death at the age of 38 years old, yet his name still continues to sound a special ring. From his time at Tokyo University of the Arts he lent his hand to fresco painting, Buddhist iconography as well as oil painting and nihonga, always seeking out the very highest quality in expression. As his style came to blossom his work came reveal floating characters and weeping petals, always lifting a curtain on a certain narrative, filling each piece with a sense of symphony. This exhibition gathers together 58 examples of his major painting works, accompanied by 23 prints and 14 sculptures each playing out his unique sense of aesthetic.
