Fukumo Touki - Three Crossings of the Potty

Over The Border

This event has ended.

Ayumi Fukumoto’s original series “Fukumo Touki” combine humor and charm with a certain lack of utilitarianism as “fictional tools”, challenging the definitions of “pottery” to question the value of art and our own perceptions of value. In this exhibition Fukumoto takes up the motif of the “Kawaya(potty)”, an “impure” place where people can release their own internal filth, dividing the worlds of “cleanliness” and “dirtiness”, like a door with some mediating role which brings us back to reality after the expelling of our corruptions. This follows in the line set by “Fukumo Touki” exposing the boundaries between the real and the imaginary, and the ambivalence between the conscious and unconscious. And as we open that door once again after walking through the world of fictitious pottery created by Ayumi Fukumoto with her uniquely sharp eye, how will our values of the world change?
