Setting Trends: Mitsukoshi and Ogai

Novelist and physician Ogai Mori played a role in the department store Mitsukoshi’s advertising culture in the Meiji and early Taisho periods through work with a PR magazine and other endeavors. This exhibition presents around 100 examples of such activity, including Mitsukoshi wrapping paper, photographs of the store’s interior, and other materials from this period. Memos from family members who enjoyed shopping at Mitsukoshi, clothing made by the store, and other articles also introduce Mitsukoshi at around the turn of the 20th century.
