Tai Ogawa “Urban Legend”
Galeria de Muerte
This event has ended.
Tai Ogawa’s drawings explore where the borders exist between dualities such as “life and death”, “light and dark”, and “the many and few” . Grasping these elements in Ogawa’s work is not simple—more than “borders”, his works could be said to show instances of “youthful arrogance exacerbated by pop culture”.
Are borders not extremely vague and subjective things that change according to time and place? This is the question of self-examination Ogawa poses to the viewers of his works, which he describes as “weapons that shake and break preconceived notions, common wisdom, and values”. The new drawings of “Urban Legends” are “ambiguous stories that cannot be distinguished from fiction and nonfiction”. Ogawa verifies the existence of these urban legends by portraying their very ambiguities.
