Amongst the collection of arts and crafts gathered in the Japan Folk-Craft Museum frequent motifs of animals appear across the numerous genres of work found here, from paintings and textiles to ceramics. Many of these motifs are deeply linked to auspicious patterns and religious beliefs which tied them closely to people’s daily lives. This exhibition opens up the rich world of animal depiction and its roots through history and the Eastern regions of Asia.
