This event has ended.

As the title shows, all the artworks of Kaori Kodama are drawn with Rotring pen on the graph paper in a line. No colors, no expression of the handwriting is shown there. There comes out “cooking line drawing” which appears behind the realism that eliminates thoroughly the emotional things. When I saw KODAMA’s artwork for the first time, it reminded me of an artwork of installation which assembled ten-thousands pieces of drawing by a German conceptual artist, Hanne Darboven. Not only the fun of the things drawn in every peice, when they are collective to form a large artwork, it also gives us a dreadfulness. On the special-made graph paper, Kodama draws her lines without draft and any hesitation, and the lines have high precision to be recognized mistakenly as if they are drawn by computer graphics. The lines which reflect the artist’s desire are very calm, as if they seem like sneering at light blue straight lines of graph paper that symbolizing the precision, and they are creating unique contrasts towards the unstable composition that never make viewers feel tired to see.
