Naoko Nakamura “An Outdoor Air Conditioning Unit Breathes Deeply”

This event has ended.
A solo show presenting works from Nakamura’s ongoing stone sculpture series created over more than a year at the studio, plus installation art inspired by various events related to this experience. Nakamura’s works are not meant to be viewed merely as objects on display, but also observed for what is not there with consideration of how and why. Like carving stone to bring out a subject, seemingly unrelated series of objects are placed around the room so relationships between them are free to emerge. For instance, even cracks on the wall or a dirty, noisy air conditioner have the potential to transform into something incredible with the mere power of suggestion presented by a brush and step-ladder, as if someone is about to clean. Rooted in perception more than logic, this highly individualistic exhibition tells the full story of an artist’s creative process.
