This event has ended.

Bingata is a traditional resist dye technique that originates from Okinawa, formerly known as the Ryukyu Kingdom of the south isles. Later the craft was adopted outside of Okinawa and established as unique local varitions such as Kyo-Bingata (in Kyoto) and Edo-Bingata (in Tokyo).
Eight years have passed since Ryuka Fukuoji’s last exhibition introducing works based on traditional Ko-Ryukyu (Old Ryukyu) Bingata style textiles. See how this dye artist works within a framework that retains the age-old charm of this technique while allowing for development and evolution in pattern design.
