All-Stars of the Okada Collection: Masterworks of Korin, Jakuchu, Hokusai, Ru Ware Kilns
This event has ended.
This exhibition marks the Okada Museum Of Art’s fifth anniversary and will present the best of its collection as the culmination of its activities since 2013. It brings together star artists who have been featured in past exhibitions. Displays include the brush-painted ukiyo-e masterpiece by Kitagawa Utamaro “Fukagawa in the Snow,” which has been receiving attention after its miraculous re-discovery in recent years, and Jakuchu Ito’s “Phoenix and Peacock,” a set of hanging scrolls that once belonged to a feudal lord. Other gems include Korin Ogata’s “Ducks and Snow-Covered Pine Trees,” which led to the formation of the Okada Collection, as well as works by Sotatsu, Hokusai, Taikan, Shoen, and Jeongjo (I San). Highlights of Eastern ceramics include a rare porcelain Ru ware bowl, as well as Kenzan Ogata’s “Bowl with Autumn Maples Design in Openwork,” which was designated as an Important Cultural Property in 2015. These works, Buddhist art, lacquer art, metalwork, jade, and glass pieces will be exhibited, for a total of approximately 450 items.
