This event has ended.

“Whispering Hope” from the U.S.-based photographer Chikara Umihara is a series of images taken on some 20 long-distance bus trips across the U.S. from 2011 to 2016. Published in 2017, the series received special mention in the Best Photography Book of the Year category at PHotoESPAÑA in Madrid. Continuing in the vein of Robert Frank’s “The Americans,” Stephen Shore’s “American Surfaces,” and Alec Soth’s “Sleeping By the Mississipi,” “Whispering Hope” captures the diversity of ethnic and cultural backgrounds in America while reflecting on the political and systematic forces at play in people’s lives.
