This event has ended.

Shingo Tsukuda considers himself less an artist than a craftsman. But he is very stylish, in fact, donning a fine hemp shirt in a Madras pattern the other day. Simplicity and modernity come and go, always natural/relaxed. In the hands of Tsukuda, wagatabon wooden trays also take on an air of refinement and captivating warmth. Wood crafts, raw material given shape and form, become companions to our lives. Tsukuda aids in that process. By combining technique and tools with an eye for selecting precious woods, he continually creates new contemporary pieces. In order to “make a living doing what he loves,” as the saying goes, he works with the annual growth rings that accumulate in concentric circles on trees, surely not an easy endeavor, but that’s a tale for another time. Perhaps it is the pride of craft that surpasses self expression.
