Listing Exhibitions and Events

Criteria for Listing Exhibitions and Events

Are there criteria for listing information?

Art and design exhibitions and events held throughout Japan can be listed in most cases. However, whether or not the venue of the exhibition or event is already listed on TAB is a major factor in the decision-making process.
In addition, we make decisions on a case-by-case basis based on the timing of receipt of event information (e.g., just before the event, already underway, etc.), the genre of the event, the duration of the event, and other factors.
In some cases, we may be unable to list an event just prior to its opening or an exhibition or event that is already underway, although we will respond to such requests as soon as possible. Auctions, one-day events, lectures and talks with limited capacity, etc. may also not be posted.

<Case 1>
The venue is already listed on TAB and the genre of the event is art and design.
The event is likely to be listed.

<Case 2>
The event is to be held at a venue that has not yet been listed on TAB. However, the venue already hosts many art-related exhibitions and events.
Due to the time required to register a venue, we may not be able to list the event in time.

<Case 3>
The venue is not yet listed on TAB and the frequency of art exhibitions and events is low.
Unfortunately, we may not be able to list the event.

How much does it cost to list an exhibition/event?

Event listings are free of cost.

When will our exhibition/event be listed?

If approved, it will usually be listed approximately one week prior to the event.

We tried searching for our exhibition/event, but could not find it. How can we tell if it was listed or not.

It may take a few days for the search engine to show your exhibition/event after it has been listed. Please note that we do not respond to inquiries about whether or not an event has been listed. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We would like to list events such as dance, performance, music, theater, and merchandise sales (pop-up stores).

We focus on covering as many art and design spaces and events as possible, so we may not be able to list your event.

We would like to list exhibitions and events held exclusively online.

As a rule, Tokyo Art Beat does not list exhibitions and events that are held exclusively online.

Will we be notified when our event has been listed?

Please note that we generally do not reply to emails received regarding exhibitions and events. Thank you for your understanding.

Requests for Exhibition/Event Listing

We have read the Criteria for listing an exhibition/event. What do we do next?

Please email us the following information.
Please make sure that your email request is addressed to event@tokyoartbeat.com and not our advertising department.

Please include the following in the email subject line: Event Start Date (Month/Date), Event Venue Name (ex. ABC Gallery), and “Request to List an Event”.

Description of the event may be edited or omitted at the discretion of the editorial staff.

Please describe objectively the theme of the exhibition, medium and style of the work, and highlights of the exhibition.

Please include the following information:

Exhibition title
Exhibition description/summary (Japanese, English if available)
Exhibition genre
Opening hours
Exhibiting artists (Japanese, English)
Exhibition images such as flyer images and images of artwork. Please send vertical images whenever possible. (Format: JPG, Size: About 200KB)

How long will it take for our event to be listed?

If approved, it will usually be listed approximately one week prior to the event.

What is the deadline for requesting an event listing?

Please send your information at least 2 weeks prior to the start of the event.

Can we contact you by phone?

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we do not accept any inquiries by phone regarding listings. Thank you for your understanding.

Will we be notified when our event has been listed?

Responding to Received Email Requests

We sent our space/event information but have received no response.

Due to the large number of requests we receive on a daily basis, as a rule, we do not respond to all but a few of the emails we receive (regardless of whether or not the information has been listed). The space/event information we receive is usually listed one week prior to the start of the event. (Please also refer to the criteria for event listing.)

Change or Removal of Exhibition/Event Information

Changing information of an exhibition or event that has already been listed or requested

We would like to change information about a listed exhibition/event.

Please contact us with the URL of the exhibition/event page you wish to change and the text you wish to change, indicating the current text and the text to be changed.

We would like to have a listed exhibition/event deleted.

In principle, Tokyo Art Beat does not delete information about exhibitions and events once it has been posted. However, Please contact us for more information.

Listing an Art Space (Exhibition Venue)

Criteria for Listing an Art Space (Exhibition Venue) Listing

What are the criteria for listing a space?

The space must be located in Japan. Please send us information about your upcoming exhibitions and events.

Although it takes time, we will try our best to give priority to galleries and other spaces that frequently host art-related events.

However, due to the large number of requests we receive, we cannot guarantee whether or not a space will be listed or when it will be listed. Please understand that we will not be able to further respond to your requests in the meantime.

For various reasons, we are unable to disclose the event/venue address, but will you still list it?

As a rule, art spaces (exhibition venues) whose addresses and maps cannot be disclosed are not listed on Tokyo Art Beat. We do not list exhibitions or events held at private residences or other locations that cannot be open to the public for privacy reasons. Thank you for your understanding.

Is there a fee to list an art space (exhibition venue)?

There is no charge to list art spaces (exhibition venues).

Who do we contact to request the listing of an exhibition/event after our art space (exhibition venue) has been listed?

The email for requesting the listing of an exhibition/event differs from the email for requesting an art space (exhibition venue) listing. After your art space has been listed, please contact event@tokyoartbeat.com to request the listing of an exhibition/event.

As a rule, we do not respond to all but a few of the emails we receive.

Changing the information of an already listed or requested art space (exhibition venue)

The basic information (name, address, phone number, etc.) of the art space (exhibition venue) has changed and we would like to update the information.

Please contact us with a clear description of the change.

We would like to remove an art space (exhibition venue) due to closing.

In principle, Tokyo Art Beat does not delete information on art spaces (exhibition venues). We can only add information such as "closed" because the data is linked to information of past exhibitions and events. If you have a special reason for requesting deletion, please contact us by e-mail.
