Tessai Tomioka
Tetsusai Tomioka (1836-1924), celebrated as the "last literati painter" of his time, was born in Kyoto during the late Edo period. He studied a wide range of academic disciplines and various painting styles, developing a rich artistic career supported by profound knowledge. His work has been highly regarded domestically and internationally since his time, influencing contemporaneous masters in the art world, as well as people from Kyoto and Osaka, and inspiring young artists of the new era.

On New Year's Eve 2024, The Suiboku Museum, Toyama will commemorate the 100th anniversary of Tetsusai's passing. This exhibition reflects on his artistic career and life. Alongside well-known masterpieces, the exhibition will feature recently rediscovered works and items such as stationery and brush records that adorned his studio, offering glimpses into Tetsusai's daily life.

This exhibition at the gallery, the third Tetsusai exhibition in about a decade, offers a fresh perspective for visitors to enjoy.
