Osakabe Jin
Osakabe Jin (1906-1978) is a landscape painter who worked in the Showa era Japan. Born in Tsuga-town, Tochigi Prefecture, he started drawing and painting earlier under his father's influence. In 1929 (Showa 4), he graduated Tokyo Fine Arts School (Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music), and started his career as a painter. However he was much influenced by French painters including Courbet, his interest was focused on Japanese landscape. He made many travels through Japan and left oil paintings depicting its beautiful landscape changing in the four seasons.
This retrospective exhibition shows 86 works of his paintings together with his early drawings and sketchbooks, and examines documentary quality of his art.
