Hakuyo Kurata, Teijiro Kurata
Hakuyo Kurata (1881-1938) was born in what is today Saitama-city, Saitama, as the youngest child of sinologist Tsutomu Kurata.
His elder brother Teijirou was a talented painter under tutelage from Chu Asai, but passed away in 1894 at the age of 24. Hakuyo succeeded his brother’s path, and became a great painter in his own right after graduating from Tokyo Art School.
This exhibition will feature 111 works and other material in recollecting the life of Hakuyo Kurata. Works by his brother Teijiro will also be on display.
