This exhibition will feature over 200 print works by 30 artists.
Japanese Wood Prints have changed over the years, from traditional Ukiyo-e to modern art. The Organization for Creative Japanese Prints was established in the late 1910s, and 1927 saw the establishment of a 'prints' division in a national exhibition. Although by this time, prints had become a recognized art form, it was not until the founding of the Japanese Prints Association in 1931 that Wood Prints came to the foreground of japanese popular culture. Wood prints became famous worldwide in the post-war period, and many artists including Shiko Munakata and Hideo Hagiwara enjoyed international renown. Works by these artists, alongside those from the pre-war period will be on display.
