Chieko Aoyama loves traveling. Not because she is unsatisfied with her environment, but because she enjoys being all by herself, surrounded by strangers and foreign sounds. Amidst all this unfamiliarity, and unencumbered, she is free to press the shutter button. Aoyama hints that what can be seen on her pictures might easily be a part of herself, a part she is unaware of. Aoyama places herself within the unknown, to get to know herself. In other words, her pictures are more than just depictions of Thailand, its Buddhism, and its daily life driven by a distinct cultural energy; they are records of interaction between the object's physical appearance, the subject's inner core and herself.
