This exhibition is concurrent to the one at the Sakura City Museum of Art.
This is an exhibition that introduces art for which "breathing" is a key concept, either in the experiencing or the creation of the work. It may be the breathing life in the hands or the sense of touch in the skin of the artist as the work is being created, or the first vital breaths we sense at the moment the image of a work comes to life, or the bond of coexistence we feel between ourselves and its image as we stand in front of a work, experiencing it. These kinds of encounters between human beings and art are surely born of the living breath that images can contain, and perhaps art can be seen as a variety of methods for breathing life into the world.
It is hoped that this exhibition will create spaces full of the respiration of a wealth of different forms of artistic expression, from painting and sculpture to moving jmages, photography, media art, sound, fashion and bodily expression. And, being an exhibition held by two neighboring museums, it will surely provide the opportunity for art to serve as a medium to inspire new flows of breathing as people travel between the two venues.
