Shinohara Ushio: Boxing Painting and the Bike Sculptures

Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura
Finished

Artists

Ushio Shinohara et al.
It has been 36 years since Shinohara established his atelier in New York. He continues his energetic activity in the "Dumbo" district of Brooklyn known for it's cutting edge atmosphere.
This exhibition reassembles his works from the early 1960s, when he first struck the art scene with his unconventional expression, till today.
Amongst numbers of works exhibited are; his trademark work "the Bike Series", a gigantic painting in tribute to Okamoto Taro and a 20 meters long painting "Kaiju in Paris" representing a Shinohara-style contemporary scroll of scenic interest.
Apart from the 40 or so works that will be on display, a large scale work is being created especially for this exhibition. Making use of the built-in glass cabinets along the museum wall, it will no doubt unveil a work beyond one's expectation. Furthermore, there will be a live boxing painting performance on the opening day.
