CKG is the artistic pen name of Sri Chinmoy, an Indian-born artist. In 1991 CKG started a series of “soul-bird” drawings and in one month astounded viewers with 17.000 individual birds. CKG has not stopped; he has now completed over 15,000,000 birds, mostly ink and acrylic. The birds appear to play lovingly with one another and seem to invite the viewer to join them. Watching the master at work is fascinating. His execution is swift and spontaneous with no thought or hesitation – a style reminiscent of Zen calligraphy. CKG’s boundless creativity flows from within like a fountain; his artwork is aptly entitled Jharna-Kala – the Bengali term for “Fountain Art”. For the first time, the “soul-birds” fly directly to Japan from a showing at Carrousel du Louvre, in Paris. 75 of these acrylic on paper paintings will be displayed at the Kamakura Buddha Koutokuin Temple, July 10-15 (9:00am - 5:00pm).
On July 14 at 10:00am Sri Chinmoy will offer a free musical concert, playing his own compositions on 7-10 instruments, while introducing an experimental sound of such dynamism and mystery that the listener will be transported to a world of wonderment. To play from the depths of the heart and not the mind, is the source of the power and beauty of Sri Chinmoy’s divinely inspired music.
