Artists

Shalom Neuman
This is the first exhibition in Japan for this artist whose work portrays life in the Lower East Side of New York. Born in Prague in the Czech Republic, Neuman specialized in painting and sculpture at the Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Having finished his postgraduate course, he won an art prize and moved to France in order to study and since the 1980s his work has primarily consisted of painting and sculpture. His work is primarily a critique of the pretences created by comic books and televisual media, and incorporate images from the comics and pulp fiction produced by industrial America. For this exhibition, the gallery will be presenting new oil paintings for which he has used an inkjet printer to transfer digital images of "Stars and Religion" onto the canvas.

A reception party will be held from 17:00 on Saturday 30th September
