Hirofumi Katayama "Vectorscapes"

Art & River Bank
Finished

Artists

Hirofumi Katayama
The works on display in this exhibition are the first new "vectorscape" works that Katayama has made in three years. The photographs are sceneries that are at first shot with a large format camera, and then manipulated by computer. The high resolution of the photographs gives the settings a strange air of unease, and at times can even instill a sense of fear in the viewer. Human beings long for the world that surrounds them to be illuminated in order for them to understand and make use of what surrounds them. However, this illumination can also have the effect of making things appear more distant and inaccessible. The world that Katayama creates in his photographs exposes the visual connections that lurk within the world around us.
