On the night of Urabone, August 16th, the five letters on Gozan - Daimonji, Myoho, Funagata, Myoho, Hidari-daimonji and Torii-gata are lit simultaneously in order to see off spirits that returned home for the Obon holiday. Hayashi got special permission to enter into the mountain where the letter "Dai", the main fire is set alight. He took pictures of the entire process of the ceremony, documenting a whole year of Daimonji tradition.
