Artists

Miyuki Yamashita
"Lilliput" is the kingdom of small people where Gulliver of Swift’s "Gulliver’s Travels" first arrives. The essence of today's travel journal, the TV travel program, lies in Yamshita's paintings. Contrary to the beautiful scenes seen in such programs, viewers of these shows often feel a sense of discomfort. Why? Because viewers subconsciously replace someone else's travel memories with theirs while watching these shows. This discomfort comes from an absence of real experiences.

Yamashita is one of the rare artists who can portray the "absence of experiences" in paintings. The human figures often depicted in her work come from scenes from TV shows, not firsthand. This exhibition shows more than ten paintings, including the travel show series.
