"Kibo Kodama - Nihonga & Sketches" Exhibition

Sen-Oku Hakukokan Museum Tokyo
Finished

Artists

Kino Kodama
Born in Hiroshima in the 30th year of the Meiji Era(1897), Kibo Kojima began studying with Gyokudo Kawai in the 7th year of the Taisho Era(1918). His work "Summer Mountain" was selected in Tei-Ten, the third exhibition of Teikoku Bijutsu-in Art Exhibition, and he finally won the grand prize in the ninth Tei-Ten. After that, he became one of the central figures in the art scene of his time. His paintings were mostly landscapes, but he also explored sumi-ink drawing and abstract painting in the postwar period. At the same time, largely unknown until today, he challenged oil and watercolor painting. This exhibition is a retrospective of Kibo Kojima's work, centering around his Nihonga, oil and watercolor paintings.
