Masaharu Futoyu
This is a large-scale solo installation exhibition by this young artist who was the grand prize winner of the 24th Hitotsubo competition.

"Currency" is a theme that is essential to our daily lives. Turning his attention to the mystery of currency distribution and the borderline between currency's imaginary nature and its effectiveness, this artist has been printing detailed "Never-ending Yen" and "Zero Yen" bills from the "Futoyu Bank". In this exhibition, a mirror is installed on the wall opposite the gallery. The idea is that this "perpetual mirror effect" will allow the "Futoyu Bank Bills" positioned in the actual space to fill up the artificial infinite space. These multiple layers of diffused reflections highlight the question that this artist is asking the viewers: what is the essence of "currency." Furthermore, the title "Ouroboros" is a symbol that is represented by a snake (or dragon) that is biting its own tail and creating a ring. This image represents infinity, circularity and permanence and has a wide range of meanings as something complete that doesn't have a beginning or end.
