NHK Nichiyo Bijutsukan 30 Years Exhibition

Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art
Finished
"Nichiyo Bijutsukan" (Sunday Museum) is a pioneering art television programme that has become increasingly popular over the many years it has been broadcast. Started in April 1976, it has now been broadcast over 1500 times, and is unique to itself; no other programme of this kind exists in Japan or abroad. This autumn the programme will reach its 30 year anniversary. Having traveled through 5 locations, the exhibition now comes to Shizuoka.

Nichiyo Bijutukan's defining characteristic is the great variety of creatives who appear on it. Cultural figures, writers and at times artists themselves each make their various suggestions about art. This exhibition presents 76 of the most memorable works featured on the programme over the past 30 years. There will also be videos of artists talking about their memories of works and other artists, including footage of their studio spaces. Until now existing only on the flat TV screen, with this exhibition Nichiyo Bijutsukan jumps out into reality.
