Kaori Yoshihara
Kaori Yoshihara has been photographing the residents of capsule apartments since 2004.

"These apartments are just 108cm high, 125cm wide and 180cm deep: capsule hotel style rooms for long-term "temporary" residents. They are occupied by people who have cut unnecessary comforts from their simple lives. Yet once those people get out of their capsules they are ready to share what they have with their neighbors. People come and go quickly. They live in a space half private, half public.

For me, photographing these people was an exploration of the boundary between you and I. It was a way to ask: where are going next, and what does "comfort" really mean? It was an exploration into the bounds of our living environment and the limitless freedom that lies without."
